The bank would not open the account without a tax ID for the owner. Twelve weeks later the account was open and Stripe was live.

Background

Samuel formed a Delaware LLC to sell software to U.S. customers. The company had an EIN, but the bank and the payment processor both asked for the owner’s taxpayer identification number, and the LLC’s annual Form 5472 also required it.

What we did

We reviewed the operating agreement and formation documents, confirmed the reporting requirement as the qualifying reason, and assembled the supporting evidence the IRS expects for a single-member LLC owner.

Passport verification was done on video from London. We monitored the application weekly and answered one IRS request for a clearer copy of the formation certificate the same day it arrived.

Outcome

The ITIN arrived in twelve weeks. The business account opened the following week, Stripe payouts started, and Form 5472 was filed on schedule.
